Cofluentum: the confluence of two great rivers
Cofrentes is a mountain area in the Region of Valencia where two major Valencian rivers converge: the river Cabriel, which comes from the Hoces del Cabriel Natural Park, and the river Júcar, which flows through slender canyons that connect with Cortes de Pallás.
Cofrentes is located at the "confluence" of both rivers and visitors can enjoy water-related activities all year round with the Cofrentes Castle as the valley's landmark.
La Maderada at Cofrentes
At the beginning of May you can't miss the Fiesta de la Maderada with your family. This year it will be held from 28th April to 1st May.
The Maderada is the most important event of the May festivities in Cofrentes. It is the re-enactment of the transport of wooden logs along the river Cabriel. This trade has made the people of Cofrentes famous for centuries, which is why they were nicknamed "madereros" (woodworkers). This year this event takes place on the morning of 29 April.
At 9:00 a.m. a pilgrimage sets off to the river Cabriel. On arrival at the river, the "madereros" will prepare a popular lunch with zurracapote (a typical drink made from grape must). After the blessing, their wooden rafts made of logs will be taken to the water.
In addition, there will also be different activities such as sports, gastronomic and cultural competitions and every day there will be a medieval market: mercenaries, falconers, knights and princesses, horsemen, contortionists, stilt walkers, musicians, animals, craftsmen and artists of all kinds will invade the streets during the festivities with a wide variety of workshops and entertainment.
