Gymkhanas and virtual games are a great way to get to know the municipalities of the Region of Valencia with children. They are maps with games and puzzles that you can download or pick up at tourist offices, and the good thing is that you can do them at any time of the year!

With these games, children will be even more motivated to explore and discover every corner, while they learn a lot of new things. We are going to show you how and where to get them.

 

Tourist Gymkhanas and gamified routes to do with children in the Region of Valencia

 

1. Discover Ayora with children

Discover Ayora with the digital tourist treasure hunt "The Golden Treasure of Ayora". This is a self-guided route with which children and adults can discover the most emblematic places of the town through the game, as well as the history and culture of Ayora. Using the Smartphone as a guide, users solve different enigmas as they walk through the streets through a unique and authentic history of the place. The best thing about this gamified route is that it can be enjoyed at any time, as it is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. All it requires is a willingness to explore and learn.

 

 

You can also take part in the Ayora family gymkhana: a walk through the local heritage with fun games for the whole family to enjoy. A route in which you will have to solve some fun tests with the help of the whole family. In order to play, you will have to go to the tourist office where you will be given information and a map of the gymkhana. The game ends and starts right there, at the Tourist Info, where, if you have solved all the tests, you will receive a diploma and a gift.

 

2. Explore El Campello with children

Explore El Campello with the Gymkhana Gymkhana ‘El Tesoro de Llop Marí’ where you can discover the most emblematic places in El Campello. It proposes questions and tests that the participants, at their own pace and at any time of the year, will complete. You can pick up this gymkhana at the tourist office.

Another very cool option in El Campello is to discover the city with the Marco Topo game. Marco Topo is an educational exploration game designed for families to make self-guided visits to different tourist destinations. As well as playing online (no need to download an app), you can use the map and stickers that you can get for free at the tourist office or download online.

Marco Topo's interactive game, aimed at families with children aged between 5 and 12, allows you to discover the emblematic places of this beautiful coastal town in Alicante on your own on a self-guided tour, highlighting the rich historical and cultural heritage of El Campello. The Watchtower, La Illeta dels Banyets, the fishing port, the yacht club, the promenade and the beach of Carrer la Mar are some of the outstanding locations of the game, as well as important locations in the development of the Moors and Christians Festivities, the fishing district, the fishermen's guild or its fish market.

Each Marco Topo adventure consists of: a map of the place to visit, a set of stickers and an easy-to-use web app with challenges. With the help of the app, you can explore the town with your family and learn a lot of things at the same time. You can play in many municipalities in the Region of Valencia, such as El Campello, Villena, Elche and Altea. 

 

3. Visit El Puig de Santa María with the family

In El Puig de Santa María there are two gymkhana to do with the family in which you have to solve some fun tests, following a map with some clues and riddles. Both maps can be downloaded online or picked up at the Tourist Office.

You will discover the Monastery of Puig de Santa Maria, the oldest streets of the town, you will climb the ‘Muntanya de la Patà’ where you can see the remains of the castle and beautiful views of the town, the beaches and the orchards.

4. Family fun in Calpe

Walk through the streets of Calpe to discover the solutions of the gymkhana. Then go to the Tourist Office and if you get all the questions right, you'll get a gift!

Another option to discover Calpe is with an interactive guide where you can enjoy audiovisual content and augmented reality. ‘Don Pedro de Berenger’ will accompany you during your visit. With this sailor who travelled in the old days, you will discover the most unusual places in the town.

 

5. Discover Elche as a family with Ili Palmir or Marco Topo.

In Elche you can look for dragons or follow the traces of time with Ili Palmir, the most intrepid explorer of Elche. 2 different and fun routes to discover the history, culture and most emblematic places of Elche in a fun way.

  • The first challenge, ‘The search for the dragons’, consists, as its name suggests, of discovering the dragons hidden around the city: clue after clue, the aim is to find every last dragon's egg hidden in the landscape.
  • In the second challenge, ‘The Tracks of Time’, Ili Palmir will accompany us on a journey through time from the time of the dinosaurs to the present day, discovering new clues and solving new challenges that will lead him to the oldest fossil ever found in our city. The adventure starts at the tourist office and goes through the most central streets of the city, passing by the MAHE (Archaeological and History Museum of Elche), until it reaches the Town Hall from where dinosaur footprints will guide them to the palaeontological museum.

Both gamified routes of Ili Palmir can be followed with a comic and a map, which you can download online or buy directly at the Tourist Office, at the price of 1 euro.

You can also choose to discover Elche with Marco Topo. On this occasion Marta Topo, Marco's sister, is characterised as the Lady of Elche and the whole universe of characters in the game guides children and adults on a tour of the historic centre of the city. The itinerary will reveal interesting aspects of the three UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Elche: the Palm Grove, the Misteri d'Elx and the Pusol School Museum.

The Marco Topo map and stickers in Elche are distributed free of charge at the city's tourist office. You can also download them from the Marco Topo website.

 

6. Explore Altea with Marco Topo

Discover Altea with the little ones of the house accompanied by Marco Topo and his sister Marta. With a fun route you will get to know the promenade, old town and viewpoints of Altea. It's a fun way to get to know this town with the whole family.

7. Explore Villena with Marco Topo

You can also go on an adventure with Marco Topo in Villena and discover the most emblematic places of this municipality: the Atalaya Castle, the Plaza Mayor, the church of Santiago or the Chapí promenade. We also visit local museums such as the Museum of Villena, the Festero Museum and the Navarro Santafé Museum.

The adventure tells the story of the TESORO DE VILLENA; an exceptional collection of Bronze Age artefacts that is one of the most important prehistoric treasures found in Europe. Marco Topo also presents the OREJÓN de Villena, a mythical character of the city's giants and big-heads who, originally, was an automaton doll that told the time in the now disappeared Torre del Reloj (Clock Tower).

9. Discover Peñiscola with two routes

Peñíscola has prepared two fun routes for children: the pirate route and the adventure route. These are two routes to discover this town that you can follow using an app. The duration of each route is around one hour. 

 

10. Explore Buñol playing with the family

Discover the Treasure of Buñol, exploring the town with this fun Virtual Tourist Gymkana. With this free route without registration, you will solve mysteries while you explore this wonderful town. All you need is your mobile phone to start the adventure and discover the secrets of Buñol. These cultural routes are more than just paths; they are living experiences that invite you to get to know Buñol from its roots and to live its traditions.

 

11. Enjoy with children and teenagers in La Nucía, with the help of Roxana.

‘Roxana in La Nucía’ is an adventure with which to explore the town with the whole family. A different and fun way to discover La Nucía and its most picturesque corners by deciphering 13 enigmas along this 1.1 kilometre-long gymkhana. For just over an hour, children, teenagers and adults can get to know La Nucía, in a tourist experience available to everyone, using their smartphones, totally free of charge and which can be done in Spanish, English or French.
