Visiting museums can be an exciting and enriching experience for the whole family. Not only is it an opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of art, history and culture, but it is also a way to create unforgettable memories and to encourage curiosity and learning in the little ones. And in those who are not so little anymore!
In this article we show you a selection of the coolest museums in the Comunitat Valenciana to visit with children and teenagers. By the way, 18 May is International Museum Day. So many museums open their doors for free and prepare special activities.
1. An interactive science museum
In Valencia there is the Príncipe Felípe Science Museum, a museum where it is forbidden NOT to touch and therefore ideal to visit with children! With interactive exhibits, we can learn about new technologies and advances in science.
This museum is great for children of all ages, as there are spaces designed for the little ones such as the Espai de Xiquets where they can play with water and build, as well as workshops for older children.
In the city of Valencia there are other lesser-known museums that can be a pleasant and fun experience with children, such as the Rice Museum, the City History Museum (interactive) and the Fallas Museum.
2. The Soldaditos de Plomo museum
If you like curious and original museums, Valencia has a very special one. This is L'Iber, the world's largest museum of tin soldiers and historical miniatures. Its collection has more than 1,500,000 miniatures, of which we can see about 100,000 pieces on display. It is also located in a historic and emblematic place in the city: the Palace of the Marquises of Malferit.
3. A magic museum
If you like magic, we recommend the Magic Museum of the magician Yunke in Peñiscola. Not only does it show us the history of the great magicians, but it also offers shows with impressive numbers in a small but charming enclosure.
4. A pirate museum!
The little ones at home usually like pirate stories, so we have a museum for them!
In Cullera there is the Dragut Pirate Cave-Museum where you can learn about the way of life of pirates in Mediterranean waters in the 16th century, see old nautical instruments, pieces of artillery, historical maps, clothing, coins and a life-size replica of the galley in which Dragut reached the coast of Cullera.

5. Stargazing in Castellón
If you have little astronomers at home, we recommend a visit to the Castellón planetarium. On Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings, children have the opportunity to have fun learning about science, astronomy, planets and researchers for free.
6. Learn more about Las Fallas and other festivals
If you want to know a little more about Las Fallas, don't hesitate to visit the Museu Faller of Gandia. Here you will enjoy the best ‘Ninots’ and the process of creating a falla, you will learn about the craft of the fallero artist, unique in the world. You will discover the secrets of dressing a fallera and the typical Valencian costume, you will experience first hand a ‘mascletà’ and you will be surrounded by traditional music.
In Villena you can learn more about the Moors and Christians festivities in the Festero Museum. This museum has an interesting collection of objects, costumes, posters, programmes and souvenirs of the fiestas from previous years.
7. Dinosaur museums
Dinosaurs arouse great interest in children and in the Comunitat Valenciana there are several interesting museums to learn a little more about these fascinating creatures.
In Elche we recommend a visit to the Palaeontological Museum (MUPE) where the more than 1,200 fossils and reconstructions on display provide a complete tour of the fascinating history of life on our planet.
In Morella, you can visit the Tiempo de Dinsosaurios Museum where young and old can explore the exciting world of geology and palaeontology through the collection of fossils from the Cretaceous.
8. Visiting archaeological sites
To learn a little more about the history of the Comunitat Valenciana, we recommend you visit some of its sites such as the Iberian settlement of Castellar de Meca in Ayora or the Illeta dels Banyets site in El Campello.

9. The Printing Museum
The Museum of Printing and Graphic Arts of El Puig de Santa Maria offers a historical journey through the world of printing, from its origins to the present day. There are workshops and guided tours for families.
10. A curious museum
In Oropesa del Mar we find the playing card museum. A museum where you can see more than 5.000 playing cards. It will undoubtedly be a very entertaining visit where you can see the biggest card in the world, discover a deck of cards that was used by two lovers to communicate with each other .... and a deck of cards that was used for military strategy.
