Route 1: the province of Castellón by motorhome
Doing a motorhome route through the province of Castellón with children and teenagers is a fantastic way to discover stunning natural landscapes and villages full of history. You will be able to enjoy the tranquillity of the mountains, cultural experiences adapted for the whole family, outdoor activities, beaches and coves, gastronomy? The province of Castellón is beautiful and well worth exploring in depth.
Enjoy the beach in Benicàssim
We recommend you to start this route in Benicàssim where, both at Easter and in summer, you can enjoy the beach. Other activities that the kids will love and that are ideal for any time of the year are going on the trains in the Parc del Trenet or visiting the Torre de Sant Vicent, whose mission was to watch over and defend the coast from attacks by corsairs. By the way, at the Torre de Sant Vicent there is an option to do an experience with virtual reality goggles that children will surely love.
If you want to spend the night in Benicàssim, a fantastic option is the Bonterra Resort campsite. This complex is ideal to use as a base: just a stone's throw from the beach, with large spaces, swimming pool and entertainment for all ages.
Nature, mountains and... Morella as a family
If you feel like doing activities in nature, we recommend you take a look at the Itinerantur programme. Every month they organise different activities and guided routes through the natural landscapes of the province of Castellón, suitable for all the family.
From Benicàssim, in just over half an hour, you can reach Morella by motorhome. Morella is a medieval town and one of the most beautiful villages in Spain. It also has an impressive castle. From the top of the castle you have the best views of the village. We recommend you to explore this village at your own pace, discovering every corner.
For those of you who want to spend the night there, you should know that Morella has an area with free access for motorhomes and campers, located less than 1.5 km from the town centre.
Explore the Alt Maestrat with Your Family
One of the best things about holidays in a camper van with kids is that you can discover places at your own pace, without rushing... And there are spots in the inland of Castellón that are best enjoyed in slow mode, such as the Alt Maestrat region or Almassora.
In Alt Maestrat, there are endless paradises to enjoy as a family. While travelling through Albocàsser, Benassal, Catí, Culla, and Vilar de Canes in your camper, you can dive into the heart of the earth at one of the few accessible mining parks in Spain, be amazed by astronomical viewpoints under starry skies, take on hiking and cycling routes suitable for all ages, have adventures with treasure hunts, explore castles that spark your imagination, wander through forests that invite exploration, and visit charming villages where time seems to have stood still... And much, much more!
Heading Back to the Coast of Castellón in Your Camper
After visiting the inland of Castellón, we head back to the coast to discover other towns such as Almassora, Alcalà de Xivert, Alcossebre, Oropesa del Mar, or Peñíscola. In all of these locations, you'll find plenty of activities to enjoy with kids, as well as campsites and/or overnight areas where you can stay for one or more nights to explore them at a leisurely pace.
Route 2: The Province of Valencia in a Camper Van
The province of Valencia hides a few surprises to discover with kids in a camper van!
Start in Valencia and Explore Its Surroundings in a Camper Van
We’ll begin the route in the city of Valencia, where we recommend visiting the Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències. The kids will love the interactive exhibitions at the Museu de les Ciències and the films at the Hemisférico. Very close by is the Oceanografic, the largest aquarium in Europe, where you can spend a fantastic day. If you’re into animals, you can’t miss a visit to Bioparc Valencia, where the little ones will feel like true explorers. And if you’re culture lovers, a visit to the Museo L'Iber de los Soldaditos de Plomo or one of the offerings by Menta Valencia will surely captivate you.
To get to know the city a little better, we recommend taking an interesting family tour with Turiart or Indiana Tours, who offer guided visits specially designed for families.
To finish the day, a super fun option is to take a sunset boat ride with Mundo Marino Catamaranes. It’s a wonderful experience.
Nearby Valencia: El Puig
Not far from Valencia is El Puig, a municipality that played a key role in the conquest of Valencia. You can still see the ruins of the Castillo de Jaume I on the mountain. They also organise guided and theatrical tours, which are a great way to learn more about its fascinating past.
Where to Stay Overnight
For an overnight stay, a fantastic option is Camping Devesa Gardens, located in the Albufera Natural Park. It offers a swimming pool, slides, dinogolf, a playground, and entertainment for the whole family.
A River Route
From Valencia, our route will take us to Cofrentes, in the inland of the province. But before that, we’ll stop in Buñol, where we can discover its spectacular castle, one of the best-preserved in the Comunitat Valenciana, and visit the fun Tomatina Museum, among other things. Additionally, on the way, we can make a quick stop at the Albergue Actio, where they organise weekly activities for families. It’s a must-visit stop if you’re travelling with kids in a camper van!
Once in Cofrentes, we can choose from a variety of family adventure activities, take a little train ride to the volcano, go on a river cruise on the Júcar River, or visit its castle. Plenty of options for a day full of adventure!
From Cofrentes to Ayora... And Back to the Coast!
After discovering the wonders of Cofrentes and taking a stroll by the river, we continue our camper van route with the kids to Ayora, where we can visit its castle and take a walk along the Ruta del Hilo Rojo to learn more about the village. All you have to do is follow the red markings on the ground!
If you’d like to end the trip with some beach time, we’ll head towards Gandia or Cullera to enjoy the sea before heading back home. By the way, if you’re in the area, don’t miss a visit to the Monastery of Sant Jeroni de Cotalba and the Palau Ducal dels Borja in Gandia, where you can take part in a super fun family activity.
Route 3: The Province of Alicante, More Than Just the Coast
In this route, we explore the coast of Alicante in a camper van with kids, but also some inland destinations in the province that you absolutely can’t miss. After all, Alicante is much more than just beaches.
Exploring the Alicante Coast
We begin our route in Jávea, where we can enjoy its beaches and coves, its gastronomy, and its wonderful old town. From there, we’ll head out in the camper van along the coast towards the beautiful towns of the Costa Blanca, such as Calpe and Altea, and finish in Benidorm, where we’ll find plenty of options that the little ones will love. These include exploring the Terra Natura animal park or enjoying the water, pools, and slides at Aqua Natura.
If you’re into adventure, from Benidorm, you can head over to La Nucía (just a few kilometres away and minutes by camper van), where you’ll find a super cool treetop adventure park with zip lines and activities.
For an overnight stay, a good option in the area is Camping Armanello, located in Benidorm. It’s a campsite with large pitches and all the necessary services for families.
An Impressive Castle
We continue our route south by camper van, and from El Campello, after visiting the town, the Illeta Tower, the Banyets archaeological site, enjoying the seaside promenade, and relaxing on the beaches, we’ll head inland to visit Villena and its impressive castle. While we’re there, we can also visit the Hotel del Juguete in Ibi, have lunch at its restaurant, and enjoy the children’s play area. The little ones will love it.
We then head back towards Elche, where you can’t miss the family-friendly routes of Ili Palmir. Just ask at the tourist office for the maps, and you’ll discover the city in the most fun way for the kids. You also can’t skip taking a ride on the tourist train, exploring the Paleontology Museum (the only one in the province), or strolling through the famous Palmeral.
And for the night, we recommend staying at La Marina Resort & Spa by Samay. A spectacular resort where you can enjoy its amazing pools and slides, the Jurassic mini golf, and the endless activities available.
