What to a do and see with children in Peñíscola

During a getaway with children in the Region of Valencia you should not forget to visit Peñíscola, a coastal town in the province of Castellón, also known as the City by the Sea. We are going to show you some plans that you should not miss when visiting Peñíscola with children.

Visit Peñíscola with kids

Visit the historic town center

The old town of Peñíscola is well worth a visit. With very young children it is worth opting for a baby carrier, because the old town has narrow, steep streets with cobblestones. Can you find the house of the seashells? This curious house has a façade covered with seashells, as the name suggests.

In the old town it is also worth looking for the windhole. It is located in a cul-de-sac very close to the Museo del Mar. The Museo del Mar is an interesting little museum to visit with children to learn about the history and seafaring tradition of Peñíscola.

Visit the castle

Peñíscola Castle, known as Papa Luna's Castle, is a Templar castle on the highest point of the rock. Children will love exploring all its nooks and crannies, from the dungeons to its courtyards, climbing up and down its towers and enjoying the breathtaking views over the Mediterranean Sea.

The admission includes a visit to the Artillery Park; a botanical garden with palm trees and native plants from the Sierra de Irta Natural Park, which also houses a refuge for birds of prey.

Visit the Sierra d’Irta

If you enjoy the outdoors, a visit to the Sierra d'Irta Natural Park is a must. It is an area of almost 8,000 hectares of land and nearly 2,500 hectares of sea. There are several short hiking routes that are easy to do with children.

Enjoy the beach

On the Peñíscola website you can find a list of the beaches and coves in town. Playa Norte is one of the most familiar beaches. This beach is closer to the old town, ideal for combining a visit to the beach with a stroll through the streets of Peñíscola.
